We regret to announce the passing of Petr Ráb.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of prof. Ing. Petr Ráb, DrSc., dr. h. c. on November 16, 2024, at the age of 73, after a serious illness.
Petr was not only an outstanding scientist, the long-time head of the Laboratory of Fish Genetics, and former director of our institute, but also a prominent figure in Czech science and, above all, an exceptional person.
Petr was actively involved in the European Ichthyological Society as a member of the board from 1997 to 2004 and as the main organiser of the 10th European Congress of Ichthyology in Prague in 2001.
He was known for his kindness, inspiring spirit, wisdom and distinctive humour. A caring mentor, he embraced his team in a warm and understanding, even after his official retirement. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
